GUJIYA (KARANJI)

As the vibrant festival of colours approaches, a familiar aroma wafts through Indian households—the irresistible sweetness of Gujiyas. While these delectable treats can be enjoyed year-round, they hold a special place during Holi and Diwali celebrations across India. Made with maida, oil, suji, elaichi, dried fruits, nuts, and creamy Nestlé MILKMAID, these half-moon-shaped delights made using our Gujiya recipe are more than just a flavourful treat; they symbolise bite-sized parcels of joy and togetherness.

INGREDIENTS

For Dough:
125 gmsMaida (All Purpose Flour)
1/4 cupWater
4 tbsp (20 ml)Oil
For Filling:
1Nestlé MILKMAID Mini
1/2 cupSemolina (Suji)
1/4 tspElaichi (Cardamom) Powder
2 tbspKishmish (Raisins)
2 tbspKaju (Cashew Nuts)
2 tbspChopped Badam (Almonds)
150 gmsFresh Grated Coconut
 

CREATE IT

STEP 1

To make the filling, roast semolina (suji) on low flame till it changes colour. Mix in Nestlé MILKMAID, elaichi powder, raisins, cashew nuts, almonds, and grated coconut. Cook on medium/low flame, stirring occasionally, till the mixture is dry. Divide into 16 portions.

STEP 2

To prepare the dough, pour oil into the maida. Add water and make it into a stiff dough. Knead the dough till pliable. Keep aside covered for 10-15 minutes. Knead dough once again. Divide into 16 balls.

STEP 3

Roll each ball into a flat round. Place one portion of the filling, fold it over and shape it into gujiya sealing the edges with little water. Deep fry in hot oil till golden brown.

STEP 4

To seal use gujiya moulds or press with the ends of a fork or simply twist with your hand.
