When Nestlé India set up its first manufacturing plant in Moga in 1961, we collected only 511 kgs of milk from 180 farmers on the first day. Today, Nestlé India works with over 100,000 milk farmers and collect high quality milk every year across the States of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan
In addition to collecting milk and implementing our milk district model successfully to ensure a stable livelihood for local dairy farmers, we support the development of our farmers by assisting them to increase milk productivity and expand their herds. We do this through financial assistance, technical assistance on feeding practices, breeding, mechanisation of dairy farms and making veterinary services available, promotion of sustainable agricultural practices and farmer training and education.
Village Women Dairy Development Programme: Over the years through our work with dairy farmers Nestlé recognised the important role played by women in dairy farming as the primary caretaker of cattle. We have therefore developed an education program for women dairy farmers, empowering them to produce clean milk and increase milk production. Over 70,400 village women dairy farmers have been positively impacted through the Village Women Dairy Development Programme till date.
